Did You Know?

The blue iguana, also known as the Grand Cayman ground iguana, Grand Cayman blue iguana or Cayman Island rock iguana, is an endangered species of lizard which is endemic to the island of Grand Cayman. Stingrays are in abundance, and you may have a friendly interaction with one – they’ve been around for about 150 million years. And four sea turtle species have been found in the Cayman Islands: green (Chelonia mydas), loggerhead (Caretta caretta), hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) and leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea) turtles. With the rarity of wildlife on Grand Cayman, this could be a trip of a lifetime.

  • Rundown Stew

Ready for an Elite Cayman Cuisine recipe? Here’s a Fish “Rundown” (stew) courtesy of award-winning, Cayman Island’s chef Maureen Cubbon of Zest Meals. It’s got all the ingredients for a meal in just one tasty dish and virtually all ingredients can be found at your local grocery.

  • Caymanian Conch Fritters

There’s nothing like a taste of the local flavor to inspire your Quest to the Caymans. For instance, how about a batch of Conch Fritters? Our favorite recipe makes about 40 fritters, and serves 6 people - perfect for a patio barbecue. It’ll take an hour or two, and you’ll need a food grinder, and either a deep fryer or a frying pan. It goes best with tartar sauce and the beverage pairing? That part is entirely up to you.

  • Some of the rarest species in the world are found in the Cayman Islands.

  • The Caymans are the culinary capital of the Caribbean

You can’t speak to anyone on the island for more than five minutes without their proudly stating that it’s the “culinary capital of the Caribbean.” From old-school fish-fry with rice and peas (there is still a strong Jamaican influence on the island) to fresh seafood, your taste buds will be on a vacation of their own. And some of the best can be found right at the Westin Grand Cayman, and the surrounding Seven Mile Beach.

  • What's a moke?

What’s a moke, you ask? It’s like a 4-seat golf cart but designed for on as well as off-road adventure! Open sides let you catch a breeze and ensure unobstructed views of the island’s beauty. Perfect for zipping around those less-traveled areas. Further upping the fun factor: driving in the Caymans is on the left side of the road!
